Concert Summary

CBGB's, that venerated, grimy hole-in-the-wall that represents a rite of passage for leather and denim clad poseurs, closed its doors for good in 2006, pushing the Bowery drunks and gormandizers out into the stinking night to seek uplifting elsewhere (or to buy a t-shirt in St. Mark's Place). Though the opportunity to be drenched in the sweat of punk's pin-ups of tomorrow has passed, a brief glimpse of what made the place famous can be heard in the unnerving vocals of David Byrne and the icy, syncopated rhythms of the …entire summary

I didn't mean to be anonymous. I love " Talking Heads " Their name alone is a statement!!! Where is Ivo Martinez? I miss the old Fillmore? The Avolon Ballroom? God it was fun wasn't it? The Angels, The Mothers, Bill Graham, the Pranksters, the posters, bobbing for apples, buying a button ( not that kind ) Da kine that says like, " Enjoy your trip! But remember speed kills ) buttons worn on your jacket. !! Ha! I can remember Paul Butterfield calling little Steveie Miller out of the audience to jam with the three" B's". Carlos had recently graduated from Jefferson High school and was third billing! He was great then and better now! Pig Pen was alive and so am I! God is good! I like Grace but I also liked the " Airplane " before Grace. Mahalo pumehana Mr. Byrnes, for your contribution-don't stop creating! aloha, Robbie

This band is so tight and was well before its time. Have seen them plenty especially seeing to formed the band at the Rhode Island School of Design and I live down the street. Where have all the good bands gone? M&M or whatever, Michael Molester, please!!!!

OMFUG was many things...but not ordinary. curious comment indeed. great to hear some old Talking Heads live....esp. love D. Byrne's genius. but what's up with the Foghat-bashing? that's beyond ignorant. in the early 70s Lonesome Dave and the boys were covering Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Elvis, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Holly...sounds like rock n roll to me (rumors of its demise were exaggerated) Oh and they recorded a little Al Green ditty called Take me to the River in 1976...when the Heads were just starting to gig...whatever. oops gotta go! (Love has come to town...) peace

Put me in the “quit whining and enjoy the music” category. Never saw Heads live myself (though did see DB make an awkward public appearance at the debut of Stop Making Sense in MPLS (think he said about three words)) but I pretty much lived Talking Heads, Clash, and Elvis Costello in those years.

Nice stuff! I wish it was longer. Fine recording as well. A piece of CB history. Sweet!

I don't want to get into the eno debate. I just want to say that this is deliciously cool Talking Heads. Thanks vault for providing it.

Besides slighting Eno, this review is shameful in its description of CBGB. This was no "ordinary" place . Ordinary is not a word one should use to describe the birthplace of Punk and the cultural phenomenon it created. And yes, there were some posers there, but CBGB was the rite of passage for such great bands as The Police, the B-52's, Prong, Butthole Surfers, and Guns and Roses (acoustic in the original record store). It was also the site of a rare Spinal Tap show. Ordinary indeed!

i agree with anon, on june 23. what a gift to have even four songs down on tape. believe it or not, a year out of grad school at columbia, i was AT this concert, a twin bill with Television. three strangely dressed suburban types up there, looking very uncomfortable on stage. and i remember very little about it other than they kicked ass.
