Bill Graham: The Hidden Vaults

In 2003, businessman Bill Sagan quietly bought a gold mine of rock & roll history: the complete contents of legendary rock promotor Bill Graham's San Francisco vault. "It's about 9,000 square feet," Sagan says, "with boxes upon boxes, many of which had never been opened." Among the photographs, posters, handbills, tickets and backstage passes were the crown jewels of the collection: thousands of hours of unheard concert recordings and videotapes of Graham - produced shows from the mid-Sixties to the early Nineties. Among the highlights: Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles in 1968; Led Zeppelin in 1979; and Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers sharing a bill on New Year's Eve, 1991. Sagan is currently streaming choice tracks at and hopes to strike deals with artists and labels to release the material.
