Concert Summary

When it came to playing hard drivin' blues rock, Stevie Ray Vaughan certainly seems to have taken the torch that was handed off by the late Jimi Hendrix - and ran with it till his legs gave out. Hendrix obviously had a massive influence on the young musician (shortly before his death, Vaughan even aquired one of Hendrix's Stratocasters), and while it's a sad coincidence that Vaughan himself lived hard and died young, the Texas bluesman learned…entire summary

This is one of the best concerts ever. Stevie and the band are smoking. The version of Tin Pan Alley blows the socks off the released version on "Fillmore East". Utterly brilliant.

I first saw SRV at Chicago Fest when it moved from Navy Pier to Soldiers Field. At the time he was unknown. It was a very hot summer day about noontime and we heard this guy playing Voodoo Chile We were like wow who is that guy? We found out his name and said Jimmie Vaughns little brother? He blew his brother away! We were big fans of the Fabulous Thunderbirds at the time.SRV played 2 sets that afternoon and we became hooked on him after 4 hours of music It was a great day!

Jimi's still the man in my book but Stevie's right behind him. Its not easy mastering a master. Hendrix is quite the protege and emulating him isn't something everyone can do. I had a chance to see him in 89 I believe. I wished I would've went. I heard it was excellent. There's only one Hendrix and only one Stevie Ray. They were both forces to be reckoned with. There's not many guitarists out there that can really become with their instrument and create a synergy. That's once in a lifetime to be able to see that kind of energy. Rock on Stevie!
