This is an excellent show from the tour of their best album. A nice reworking of BTBW almost makes up for no Sookie, Sookie.

One of my best friends turned me on to Steppenwolf in the '60s. That friend is dead now, but everytime I hear John Kay and Steppenwolf play it resurrects the good times that we shared. Theme music with a sense of place. Rock on Tommy! And rest in peace.

I couldn't agree more with -wadehardin- TOP 100 OF ALL TIME. Like to give STEPPENWOLF LIVE a thumbs up for live double album. For some reason people(critics)tend to overlook STEPPENWOLF or classify them by BORN TO BE WILD/MAGIC CARPET RIDE and the motorcycle image. Listen to MONSTER(album),PUSHER,DON'T STEP ON THE GRASS-SAM and you'll hear a tight, forward thinking group of individuals who jelled at the right time in musical history. This was the first band I ever saw LIVE. War Memorial Auditorium, Minneapolis MN, summer 1969,14yrs old,mom drops off my friend Howard and I a couple of hours early and the doors to the auditorium are open. We go inside and the place is empty. Walk up to the stage and take in the immensity of the auditorium. Then we hear "What are you kids doing!" we turn around and say "Nothing,we have tickets to the show",as kids of 13 and 13 1/2 we thought we were in big trouble. TURNS OUT THE GUY WAS A ROADIE AND ASKS US IF WE'D LIKE TO HELP OUT!!! of course we said sure and we then got to help haul the equipment in. The roadie then told us we had to sit on the edge of the stage and keep people from jumping onto it(HA). So, the doors open and in rush all these bikers and biker mamas and everyone else and they start pulling benches from the sides of the auditorium right up to the front of the stage. I am in another world, people are lighting up joints and drinking out of wineskin flasks. HOWEVER, soon after STEPPENWOLF starts the promoter comes up and asks what we kids are doing on the stage and that we have to get off. We tried to tell him that we were told to be here but he didn't believe it and kicked us off. That was the begining of 40 YEARS OF ROCK AND ROLL!!! THANK YOU, JOHN KAY and wolfgangsvault.
