About

Steppenwolf

A band that produced some of the best motorcycle songs ever, Steppenwolf was featured on the soundtrack of the film Easy Rider. Their music was uncompromising hard rock, and the term "heavy metal" was popularized in their first hit, "Born to Be Wild." Their leader John Kay was noted for his ever-present sunglasses and tight black leather pants. Steppenwolf was also an unabashedly political band; Kay was a highly articulate and thoughtful spokesperson for their political beliefs. They became one of the foremost rock groups of the sixties and produced seven gold albums before disbanding in 1972.
