Concert Summary

In direct contrast to the majority of young musicians pursuing American folk and blues during the early 1960's revivals, "Spider" John Koerner was a true innovator and original. Surprisingly, Koerner never intended on becoming a professional musician. As a teenager, he was far more interested in aviation, which in 1956 brought him to the University of Minnesota to pursue studies in aeronautical engineering. I can't believe nobody has listened to this wonderful performance since spring! I just found it.
I like his bit about changing Snaker Ray's name to Charlie because it didn't fit the song..story on top of story...because he mentions him in it anyway!

This guy is one of the great heroes of American music. He and his guitar have shouted and stomped in syncopated joy for almost 50 years. This concert is totally excellent, of course - he embodies the lost spirit of the old-time solo accoustic performer who knows he has to make the people dance with one instrument and his voice. That ain't easy. Since 1967 he has stayed true to his vision and is still playing gigs in small coffeehouses/bars, etc. Go see this dude, he rocks!!
