In 1974, there was no young California band more promising than Marin County's Soundhole. Not only did the group contain six talented musicians, but they all could sing and several were songwriters to boot. Raised on the sounds of San Francisco, but with a comprehensive musical awareness collectively, Soundhole covered a lot of territory. I recall seeing Soundhole at the Lion's Share in San Anselmo a couple of times - they were awesome. We didn't realize how lucky we were to have music of that quality available locally.

When I stumbled on the note in Bay Area Bands (thanks Stephan) I came here and WOW! Soundhole was terrific, wonder what Brian would have been up to if.. and Dan of course. Horns! Great! What a Time Trip.

Soundhole was a rarity; multi-talented, funky, plenty of vocal and songwriting depth, and at the time, a bit ahead of the curve. Like the Sons of Champlin, they were well-respected by other musicians (Van Morrison and others), but never seemed to get the large break they deserved. I only had the chance to see them live once, Oct 13, 1973 at Novato High School gymnasium. Warmup act was Logos, another Bay Area local favorite form the 70's. Thanks for posting this concert!

When they are good, they are very, very good And when they are not they are boring. But on the whole they kind of grow on you; especially the jamming on track 4.
