Concert Summary

Performing professionally since the age of 13, Frank "Son" Seals began as a drummer before taking up the guitar. His father ran the Osceola, Arkansas juke joint, the Dipsy Doodle Club, where Seals was first exposed to Sonny Boy Williamson and two of his early mentors, Robert Nighthawk and Albert King. By age 13, Seals began drumming for Nighthawk, but by the end of the 1950s, he began fronting his own band in Little Rock and had switched over to guitar. When he wasn't playing in Chicago, Son Seals was a regular on the Big Ten circuit--I saw him at a little basement club in East Lansing in the late 70s and he was SMOKIN'--one of the best guitar players I ever saw live. But then, I'm a sucker for those biting, piercing notes that just go inside your head and rattle around in your brain and shake you down to your very foundation.

Great show, Son Seals oddly has not had the acclaim & recognition even close to what he deserves. When I saw him back in Chicago, (Biddy Mulligans), he & his band kicked ass! I didn't know of him then ('74 or so), but was really knocked out. He reminded me of a cross between Albert King & Santana, since he could play so fiercely, and with a nice fat guitar tone.

Very, very impressive, but I must admit I'd never heard of this band before! Thanks Wolfgang's Vault..

Absolutely Brilliant! Whata great concert. I saw him live in London and was knocked out. Wish he was still with us.

KIngston Mines is my favorite blues club in the world. Don't leave Chicago without experiencing it, any night of the week. signed "Slideboy Cober"
