Concert Summary

These performances were recorded weeks after the release of Sly and the Family Stone's second album, Life, but just before the "Everyday People" single would vault the band to international recognition and incredible commercial success. The influence Sly and the Family Stone would soon have on the American music scene cannot be underestimated. It's safe to say they were a major force in the development of 1960s era funk and soul, but they would have equal influence on the likes of other musicians, including jazz great…entire summary

I want to second the anonymous comment on 15 Oct 2009, when are you going to dig up more Sly and the Family Stone? Or any of the many other great bands that played the Fillmore(s). Don't get me started on the overload of Dead and Airplane shows... please, say it isn't true that the tapes were only rolling when the Dead played their glorified elevator music and the Airplane played their horrendously out of tune, no talent garbage. Believe it or not, I like both those groups, but the material in the Vault doesn't do either of them justice, shows the brass feet on them for sure. But, these two sets from Sly, man, this is music! Bring on some more, release everything!

Wow- five star show. Tight, economical playing yet inspired to let loose. But where are the other S&TFS shows ? Only this and their Woodstock shows are available in 40 years-so no hurry on releasing additional shows . Wha'append- did they use up all the recording tapes on the Dead & Airplane's out-of-tune sloppiness ?

Awesome...as a kid, I hitchhiked to see Sly at a small college town in Illinois. My friends and I made it through falling snow, saw the show and had an amazing time. I grew up to tour for 27 years with many of the greatest acts in the biz, and rarely saw a show that compared. Listening to this brings back some wonderful memories.
