Concert Summary

These performances were recorded weeks after the release of Sly and the Family Stone's second album, Life, but just before the "Everyday People" single would vault the band to international recognition and incredible commercial success. The influence Sly and the Family Stone would soon have on the American music scene cannot be underestimated. It's safe to say they were a major force in the development of 1960s era funk and soul, but they would have equal influence on the likes of other musicians, including jazz great Milesentire summary

I first saw Sly and The Family Stone in 1971 at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, Ca. and to this day it was one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE CONCERTS! I was only 16 years old and that was what made it so special. Seeing a "melting pot" of different races there, black, white, latino, oriental, you name it, everyone just dancing and having a great time together throughout the ENTIRE CONCERT! That's the way it should always be in this great country of ours. :)

I love the Vault, but you have got to give us Sly heads more than this. U cant talk about about Sly without Family Affair, You Can Make It If You Try, EveryDay People and Thankufalettinmebemiceelfagain in the mix. It sounds to me like this has been dismissed as uninspired disco...that is a sad sad mistake.

I LOVE the sound of Greg Errico's bass drum! The whole kits sounds absolutely outrageous, not to mention the playing - loose and real.
