Concert Summary

Although Slade saw their biggest commercial success between 1972 and 1974, this show, culled from the archives of promoter Bill Graham, showed the Brit rockers were still red-hot as a live act in 1975.

Opening with "Them Kinda Monkeys Can't Swing," they move next into "Bangin' Man," a song that described life as a rock star in the mid-1970s. Another highlight is an extended version of "Let The Good Times Roll," which moves into "Get Down and Get With It." There are more big hits thrown in for good measure, making this a complete Slade show.

Formed in 1966 in the English…entire summary

I'm amused that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley admired Slade. I would've predicted it was the Bay City Rollers they'd have tried to emulate. Slade are actually very good.
I used to play Slade cuts on my college radio station 1972-75, and listeners would call up and ask Who the hell is that? They had a pretty good variety of creative sounds, and they performed well, always, at a time when so many drug-addled rockers were having a hard time getting through a song. But no, they never hit big with Americans ... and England is full of other even more brilliant acts (including the Small Faces) who simply never broke through. America was busy with too many other sounds, from Allmans to ZZ Top. Oh, well, why not.

I used to belong to their UK fan club for many years and have kept a history of the band archived. I can always use Slade concert memories and stories. Please send to Steve slade25@hotmail.com

This show is available on video if anyone is interested. Great band, raw rock and probably one of the most underrated live acts of all time !

Yeah Dave Hill was never the best but he was a great riffer and a cracking showman. Slade were never about rivalling Hendrix or Page or Blackmore they just wanted to raise the roof and make you feel better about life with their performances. They wrote great songs with great melodies and hooks but were never up themselves. You guys were lucky they devoted so much time to cracking the American market and worked so hard there. So many of your most successful bands have been inspired by them, you'd be a lot worse off without Slade.

I don't know what Nod and Jim were thinking of letting Dave Hill do a solo at the end of Just A Little Bit. He was never going to be a guitar hero, besides, that wasn't his role: riffs and rhythm, keep it simple, that was the Slade trademark, that's what made them instant and exciting, a relief from the solo-laden mid 70s bands. The crowd had every right to be less than impressed by Dave's clumsy effort but I get the feeling that they were waiting for a chance to complain. Most of this set was very good, much better than the 1973 Winterland show.

Dave Hill is a living l?gend, the anti-Vai Satriani technical barnum, a so british non-technical rock-guitarist, like Dave Davies from the Kinks and Steve Jones from The Pistols: fun, loudness, excess, youth-for-ever attitude. The critics says " Slade is shit" but the times speak and today, Slade = rock l?gend !!
