Concert Summary

A short but powerful set, Simple Minds delivers the goods for some of their best songs from the early-1980s at this show captured in Newcastle, England during November of 1982. Opening with the rhythmically heavy "Hunter and the Hunted" and moving into the even more compelling, "Glittering Prize," vocalist Jim Kerr shows why he had one of the best voices on the charts during this time. It is a wonder that more of the band's songs weren't hits on U.S. radio.

A chilling version of "Big Sleep" comes soon after, with its title taken from the famous Humphrey Bogart film. They close the…entire summary

This is a great recording of their best tour behind their finest album. I saw this tour in a fabulous old theatre, best seats in the house, and remember it like it was yesterday. Such sumptuous lighting, perfect sound, incredibly warm vibe...we were enveloped in musical goodness. Of thousands of shows I've seen by almost all of the greats, it's top ten for sure. Everyone should own New Gold Dream. It was and is a true classic. Listen to that rhythm section! Derek and Mel kicked ass and provided the foundation that Jim needed to soar. Love Mick and Charlie too...so few guitar solos, so much taste. You don't encounter that very often. So sweet to find this here. The Vault has many amazing surprises!

Man this record meant so much to me in college. "Big Sleep" sounds even better here than it did on the album.

Saw them in Dallas during the "New Gold Dream" tour. Amazing, and Jim Kerr was blown away by the VERY receptive audience. Really, he was stunned. What a great night of music (Palladium, Dallas, Texas). I've seen many a great concert, and this one ranks up there.

Simple Minds at there very best before Jim got to political. I believe Jim & Charlie should have let things go after Mic left. Daveman6333

"Pure quality recording - I don't think so" - So sorry to "scavos". I read this as "POOR quality recording". I'm off to get eyes tested! Rest assured this is a "Minds Classic".

Definitely a great and underrated band. A few corrections/questions about the summary... There was actually another fantastic and pivotal album after New Gold Dream called A Sparkle In The Rain which preceeded the song "Don't You." And I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Robin Clarke and the percussionist did not join the band on tour until after "Don't You" when original bassist Derek Forbes left (sadly), and they toured for the next album "Once Upon A Time". Lastly, if we are going to credit the title "The Big Sleep" it should really go to Raymond Chandler who penned the novel of that name which was turned into the Bogart film. Cheers.
