Open from 1968 through 1971, the Fillmore East was the epicenter of rock music on the East Coast during its brief tenure. When Bill Graham opened the Fillmore East he felt that, as a New York venue, programs similar to the Showbills presented at Broadway shows were more appropriate marketing tools than posters.
