Sarah McLachlan

The gentle tones of classically-trained singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan make her a folk-pop favorite. Born in Nova Scotia in 1968, McLachlan first gained attention in Canada with 1988's Touch. She followed up with the critically acclaimed Solace in 1991 and soon built a following in the U.S. On tour for 14 months, McLachlan traveled to Cambodia and Thailand to work on a documentary on poverty and child prostitution and then retreated to Montreal to write her next album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Her songs are simple and powerful, and hit single "Hold On" from Fumbling... is an unsentimental paean to a woman's strength. McLachlan released three more albums, including Surfacing in 1997; contributed "I Will Remember You'" to the film The Brothers McMullen; and organized and headlined the acclaimed Lilith Fair summer tour. Her live release, Mirrorball, in 1999 includes material from the Lilith Tour.
