Concert Summary

In 1973, guitarists John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana were both venturing down a similar path. Both had become disciples of the spiritual teacher, Sri Chimnoy and they were both actively pursuing a spiritual path within their music. Both musicians also held the music of John Coltrane in the highest regard and these common interests led them to collaborate on an album. That…entire summary

I saw this tour at a stop in Ann Arbor, Michigan--great. I worked in college radio at the time and remember seeing advance publicity for an officially released record from the tour, alas it was never to be, must have been some snag. Maybe someday we'll hear this with good sound quality

I heard there is a chicago show that was supposed to be pretty good of these two greats

The sounds not pristine, but after the first few minutes it's very respectable. I always thought Doug Rauch never got enough credit for his fab bass playing on Caravansarai and Lotus and Welcome, and this incredible show. He really knew how to compliment Carlos and had a very spacy feel to his own playing. Did anybody listening to this show see a Santana concert at Hampton Coliseum In Hampton, Virginia, approx 73 or early 74? One vocal on Black Magic Woman and then nothing but red hot Lotus era jams for about two and half hours. Michael Shrieve and Dough Rauch were a killer rhythm section, and the percussion players were not of this planet, Carlos all in white with short hair and neat little goatee. Anyway, more jazz rock. Some Larry Coryell, perhaps.

Is this all you have of these two guys? I know the sound can be terrible sometimes with the age of the tapes but pretty please find a better representation

The teaming of Larry Young with John is such a glorious treat, I love hearing this. As bad as the sound quality is, I will never tire of Larry and John playing music together. I'd love to get my hands on a an old album I used to own called DEVOTION. Larry and John together on that was so great. A Love Supreme really reminds me of that era. Thanks, Wolfgang.

Not for the faint of heart, but great musicianship! Excellent example of inspiring, cutting edge jazz-fusion. Where are the musicians today who can play such long fresh innovations? Thanks Wolfgang!!!

A prayer for Birds of Fire's Nestlings: "O God, Give again To us orphans Few players endowed With such burning Spiritual intensity And metaphsical visons And protect us From the lot Of music gymnasts. Amen!" Un saluto a Marco, se non li avessi cerca in rete i concerti di Toronto, di qualit? sorprendendente anche audio.
