  • Anonymous Monday, April 23, 2012 11:16 am My 1st concert ever was Sammy Hagar & Boston at Madison Square Garden on this tour in August 1978, I remember so much about Sammy that night especially with the Bad Motor Scooter intro when I had never heard of him before that night.
  • jjflash Monday, April 23, 2012 8:49 am Saw SH on this tour in Chi total respect earned for him when he wore concert t shirt with him NOT TOP BILLING saw him w/ montrose 1975 texas great show keep rockn
  • Doccus Monday, April 23, 2012 8:20 am It's pretty clear from the performance here why the Montrose band simply couldn't contain him..Although Ronnie was a good guitarist and performer, he was no Sammy Hagar, plus excellent vocals and stage presence, Sammy can play well too... He's quite young here (mind you we all were:-) ..he reminds me so much of the rockers I used to play with, at least the really good ones.. Didn't care at all for the jam at the end, though..
  • MickeyAgaragus Tuesday, March 06, 2012 12:05 pm I got ahold of this one day and was blown away. I was really into Sammy but a little depression kicked me out of the groove for him. Hearing "All Night Long" re-sparked interest and obtained this. It was enough to hear this part, but the rest of it was amazing. I never had heard somebody that did a show that good and did things straightforward in a full concert, no Rainbow-like solo. In short, it turned me around. To this day I swear that will inspire me for the rest of my life! The best American to set foot into the music world!
  • Anonymous Thursday, November 17, 2011 9:47 am Lobster - thanks for the insight...when I first moved to SF- KSJO was my fav station...sad to see it go... Is it ironic or just silly that Sammy is wearing a Montrose shirt? Something tells me he doesn't wear Van Halen shirts when playing in Chickenfoot
  • The Lobster Tuesday, June 07, 2011 2:07 am A bit more accurate history to add to the post below. KSJO, 92.3 in San Jose was one of America's first FM Rock stations launched a month after KSAN, San Francisco in 1968. In 1974, new owners flipped the format to Top 40. This is first hand information. I was the kid on the airstaff then, and "let go" before the format flip. Worked at 98.5 KOME by that summer. The next year, Steve Rosetta and his crew from KSFM in Sacramento returned the station to rock. On July 4th weekend in 1976, I left KOME on the top of the ratings and was hired to be KSJO's Music Director and 6-10pm DJ. We turned the ratings around on KOME within the year. After a few more ownership changes in post-deregulation era, KSJO was flipped to the "Recuerdo" format in 2004, then returned to rock for a while before being sold again and turned into Chinese Pop. RIP "The Light From Below." First time I've seen the video since. It was a great night.
  • The Lobster Tuesday, June 07, 2011 1:37 am To be factual, this show was KSJO's 10th Anniversary celebration. Ronnie Montrose was the middle act on Journey's Infinity tour at the time. Although "unrehearsed" as Sammy said at the end of Rock Candy, Ronnie had shown Neil Schon the chords before we flew Journey's guitarist home to SF to jam at the end of the night. Also in that jam, Eddie Money and his guitarist, Jimmy Lyons. The show was not announced as "Sammy Hagar and special guest" Alvin Lee was headlining a tour, and Sammy was opening for him. Because it was KSJO's show, we made Sammy the headliner with Alvin Lee and 10 Years Later middling and the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils opening. Alvin Lee threw a fit when he saw the Winterland Marquee did not have his name on top. Bill Graham had to put out the fire, and yelled at me about it when he got to the venerable venue that night, because no one at BGP told him what was going on. We had a big catered party backstage with all the station staff, clients and friends and a KSJO Birthday cake the size of a table. By the end of the night, Bill was happy.
  • Anonymous Friday, May 13, 2011 5:11 pm It's great to see this video. I knew Winterland recorded these shows and wondered why they were'nt available. I had the priviledge of working for Sammy when this show was produced. I was the guy who rushed that cute gal off stage. Got a kiss from her too. Too fun.
  • Stig O'Tracy Thursday, May 12, 2011 12:24 pm Saw Sammy in 75 at Winterland right after he split from Montrose, loudest concert evert. Strangest thing was the Montrose headlined. Was kind of bizarre. Hagar's voice is just really good here. Schon so good he just figures out Rock Candy as he played it.
  • rodrunner Friday, April 29, 2011 10:34 pm I remember this show was announced as "Sammy Hagar and special guest", and I hoped it was Ronnie Montrose". Neal Schon is great, but I was a little disappointed when Hagar brought him out on stage. Still, a great show.
