A progressive cerebral act, Yes was in the same strata as contemporaries King Crimson but had a definitive success rate and serious take on its musical genre. Born in Birmingham, England in the late 1960s, Yes emerged as a rare progressive art-rock band in heavy psychedelic rock surroundings. The band's classical, medieval take on traditional rock formulas made Yes one of top acts of the '70s, and the '71 release The Yes Album remains a compelling staple in progressive rock anthologies.
