Although they had a jazzy, mellow West Coast sound, the Youngbloods' roots were in Boston and New York. Inspired by the Beatles, Jesse Young decided to form a group in 1965. From the same folk/blues scene as the Lovin' Spoonful, the Youngbloods moved to San Francisco in 1967 and went Top Five in 1969 with "Get Together." "Darkness, Darkness" is their masterpiece, a full recognition of the dark side absent from the rest of their work, given a total authenticity by one of San Francisco's great guitar solos....more
