The first time I listened to the Long Winters I thought of Counting Crows. Maybe that’s because Counting Crows’ song “A Long December” was floating around in my head, or maybe because the Long Winters’ singer John Roderick’s voice shares an accentless, quickly excitable quality with Adam Duritz’s. Or perhaps it was because both bands are absolute whores for instantly catchy anthems

Via email correspondence, Berman responds humbly and honestly to my inquiries on his current perceptions of himself—and with more than a tinge of self-deprecation. “I still have problems reconnecting with the world. I’m radically, unwillingly anti-social,” he says. Yet for someone who feels so disconnected from society, Berman does an awfully good job of describing it.
