Via email correspondence, Berman responds humbly and honestly to my inquiries on his current perceptions of himself—and with more than a tinge of self-deprecation. “I still have problems reconnecting with the world. I’m radically, unwillingly anti-social,” he says. Yet for someone who feels so disconnected from society, Berman does an awfully good job of describing it.

So far this election season, the young people are getting more involved and showing up at polling centers in record numbers. For some, it’s “Rockstar” Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich. For others, it’s the idea of the first woman president or the first Mormon president.
