Stevie Ray Vaughan's blues-rock career was cut cruelly short in a fatal August 1990 helicopter crash. The talented Texan, who helped spearhead the blues revival of the early 1980s, built up a strong Texas following with the Cobras, Triple Threat and the group with which he hit the big-time, Double Trouble. Vaughan's guitar playing was unique, running the gamut from reflective to fiery, and his music attracted the interest of David Bowie and an offer to play on Bowie's 1982 album, "Let's Dance." Vaughan's 1983 debut album with Double Trouble, Texas Flood, was a big hit with both blues and rock audiences. Two successful albums later, Vaughan was in the grip of drug and alcohol addiction. He battled back, and Double Trouble released "In Step" to even greater acclaim in 1989. The 1990 helicopter crash occurred on Vaughan's departure from an East Troy, WI gig which featured an encore jam with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and Vaughan's brother, Jimmie.
