Although summer releases are thin, it's the direct opposite for the touring schedule. Loads of bands on the run this summer, especially the holy-crap-best-show-ever Fleet Foxes experience you should be sad to miss.

Most of what I know about Burke's history comes from Guaralnick's interviews with him. But what I felt when I talked to Burke myself was something else entirely—perhaps best described as spiritual refreshment—and it's something that I will carry with me from here. He's a Philadelphia native who loves country music and a former "wonderboy preacher," with 21 children, 89 grandchildren

What kind of a fan am I today? In some ways I’m unchanged, and I still look for and sometimes find in the music exactly whatever it was I hungered after when I was 16 (proof that the world is a passionate place; a friend in the lonely night; release for my anger, confusion, idealism, desire fear and love).

Along with a few up-and-coming indie bands, we each found ourselves soaking in the respective sounds of underground mainstays in the last two weeks. In a venue big or small, each show revealed itself to be intense, moving, and special.
