Results for Quicksilver Messenger ServiceQuicksilver Messenger Service was one of the leading acid-rock San Francisco bands of the late sixties. Its early shows and albums contributed some of the best-remembered instrumental jam music of the period. In 1965, at the request of folksinger Dino Valenti, guitarists John Cipollina and Jim Murray began putting together a band to back Valenti's singing. While Valenti was serving an eighteen-month jail sentence for drug possession, the pair added guitarist Gary Duncan, drummer Greg Elmore and bassist/singer David Freiberg. By the time Valenti was released from jail, there was no place for him in the band. Within months, Quicksilver was a staple on the San Francisco music scene, routinely appearing at both the Avalon and the Fillmore. Featuring the outstanding guitar work of Cipollina and Duncan and rich three-part vocal harmony, Quicksilver was one of the most popular psychedelic bands of the time....more

Alexander Lee “Skip” Spence found himself in the Bay Area after spending the first part of his life in Ontario, Canada. After a brief stint as a folk singer, he joined San Francisco psych pioneers Quicksilver Messenger Service as a guitarist. QMS started playing gigs
