Phil Lesh was a founding member of the Grateful Dead, playing bass with the Dead from 1965 to 1995. Born in Berkeley, California he studied avant-garde composition and electronic music at Mills College under legendary composer Luciano Berio and teamed up with friend Jerry Garcia's band, the Warlocks. The Warlocks morphed into the Grateful Dead and the long, strange trip began for Lesh and the other Dead members. After Jerry's death in '95, Lesh joined Bob Weir and Mickey Hart in the Other Ones for the Further Festival and later toured with his own band Phil Lesh and Friends.“more
