Led Zeppelin rose from the scattered ashes of the British Invasion Yardbirds. Featuring Jimmy Page, the only and barely original member; singer Robert Plant; John Paul Jones on bass and drummer John Bonham, The New Yardbirds was hastily assembled to fulfill the Yardbirds’ concert commitments in August, 1968. By year end, the band had recorded its first album, changed its name to Led Zeppelin and secured a contract with Atlantic Records stateside. Although Led Zeppelin is considered the definitive heavy metal band, producing loud blues interpretations with heavy mythology, British folk and world music overtones, it was hardly a darling of the contemporary media. Rumor and innuendo. I loathe the former, generally, and have been accused of brandishing the latter to further my agenda. But because I am no fan of rumors, I was taken aback when I learned the hard way: in my last column, I wrote an alleged fact that was based on a rumor (read more)

Having spent the first 15 years of my life there, I can say with some authority that Connecticut is a state generally populated by fuddy-duds, buzzkills, and sticks-in-the-mud.  No one there over the age of 35 wants anyone under the age of 25 to have any fun at all. (read more)
