A cowbell, an Autoharp, and an electric guitar—it’s not the trio of instruments most people starting a rock band would put on their must-have list. But these are the elements that mark the music of the aptly named Oakland band Cryptacize, the trio of Michael Carreira, Chris Cohen, and Nedelle Torrisi. Although summer releases are thin, it's the direct opposite for the touring schedule. Loads of bands on the run this summer, especially the holy-crap-best-show-ever Fleet Foxes experience you should be sad to miss.

Steph is from Philadelphia, where it’s en vogue to support your hometown heroes, but only until they eclipse the local scene. Philly’s a place where you’re either in because you’re out or you ain’t in at all, where both the rock bands and the sports teams straddle the fence between expectation and reality.
