Just by chance, I was digging through my music collection and listening to Buddy Holly’s Greatest Hits in mid-December. Suddenly, I heard the sound that Springsteen had inherited. I became convinced he lifted this chugging, rockabilly-type style from Holly. You can hear this same sound on tracks by Holly

I'm looking at a picture of Mr. David Viner that features him with a wild-eyed look. Gaunt and pale, he looks a bit scared (or maybe it's scary), as if he could be related to one of the children in Margaret Keane's early paintings of big-eyed people who live at the dark end of the street.
