After over a decade of trying to make it as a solo act, singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs hit the charts in 1976 with Silk Degrees, selling five million copies. A childhood friend of Steve Miller, he joined Miller's early bands as lead vocalist, and Miller taught him to play the guitar. Scaggs later went solo, roving Europe as a street singer and recording his debut LP in Stockholm. He returned to the U.S. in 1967 and moved to San Francisco where he reunited with Steve Miller for two albums. In San Francisco, Scaggs became known for his annual black-tie concerts on New Year's Eve. His studio band for much of the seventies included the nucleus of what became Toto.“more
