Concert Summary

The late Rory Gallagher made some very cool records, but he could never capture the excitement and power that were almost always part of his live shows. Just take a listen to this recording made for the King Biscuit Flower Hour on his '74 US tour. Gallagher had a strong following on the west coast and this show in San Diego was well attended by a large, loyal audience.

Gallagher made a name for himself in 1969 with the band Taste, who recorded three albums before splitting in 1971. Gallagher recorded several solo albums…entire summary

Saw Rory at least 10 times in the 70's & 80's and at least once. In the 90's. In 76 I hitchhiked from Boston to Worcester Mass where HHS was opening for Dave Mason at Worcester.PolyTech. Waited in parking lot outside gym and Rory and band arrived in station wagon. when the students let the band backstage I blended in with them. I stood around awkwardly when Rory plugged into a small amp and started tuning. I distinctly remember baseman McAvoy being engrossed in a comic book. Eventually Rory asked very politely if he could help me. Told him QI thumbed from Boston on a bet I could shake his hand. He lit up like a bulb. Told me to make myself at home with the food and drink.
I remember he was drinking JD and sprite from a sizable tumbler and probably not only cause the Molsons was warm.
saw that show from the stage and the next night at the old Music Hall where he brought down thunder with a stonkin' version of Souped Up Ford. I remember being really disturbed when I last saw him in the early 90's when he was all bloated before his liver transplant. he was still playing sharp as ever. A truly gentle and probably lonely soul who lived every day for that one hour a night when he could be RORY GALLAGHER. Criminally underrated musician.

Saw him at MSG in mid 80's opening for Rush. I might have been one of the only people in the Garden who gave a damn - their loss. Gotta admit, I don't remember much about Rush, but Rory was outstanding.
