Concert Summary

This King Biscuit Flower Hour show captures Irish blues guitarist Rory Gallagher during his terrific '70s run of studio and live albums. He was renowned for his unhinged, impassioned live performances, and the quality of this show only helps cement his legendary status. The three-piece lineup, including longtime live band member Gerry McAvoy on the bass and new drummer, Ted McKenna, rips through eighteen tunes in a little over two hours on their second night at the Bottom Line in New York City.

Before launching his solo career, Gallagher led the London-based group Taste from 1966 to…entire summary

I saw Rory at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip in the early Seventies--it was my first concert and I'll never forget it. Over the years, I saw all of his LA area performances up until his untimely death and every one of those shows matched the intensity of that first show.

I saw Rory several times in my (and his) hometown of Cork, Ireland over the years of my youth and I even once got to interview him for a University paper (which my idiot editor never published). Not only was RG one of the best blues guitarists ever seen or heard outside of the US, but he was also an absolute gentleman and ever so humble and unassuming in person. A musical giant and a class act, he is still very sadly missed. This Bottom Line show, by the way, is stunning but you knew I was going to say that anyhow! Can we PLEASE have this as a purchasable download along with all the other RG shows here? The world deserves it!

i saw rory gallagher in September, 1973 at Roberts Stadium in Evansville,IN. he played before Rod Stewart but blew him off the stage. Stewart was playing as part of a contract obligation for failing to play at the Bull Island Festival the summer before. Stewart, whose earlier stuff I really liked, was a spoiled ,whiny, bitch who swore he would never play in Evansville again. he played here last year, probably forgetting his promise or forgetting Evansville, who cares, I passed. But Rory Gallagher was amazing.
