Concert Summary

This King Biscuit Flower Hour show captures Irish blues guitarist Rory Gallagher during his terrific '70s run of studio and live albums. He was renowned for his unhinged, impassioned live performances, and the quality of this show only helps cement his legendary status. The three-piece lineup, including longtime live band member Gerry McAvoy on the bass and new drummer, Ted McKenna, rips through eighteen tunes in a little over two hours on their second night at the Bottom Line in New York City.

Before launching his solo career, Gallagher led the London-based group Taste from 1966 to…entire summary

1974, N?rnburg. The Neu Messehalle. Roy Gallagher. Toss in half a hit of good tripping substance and what a fine night we had!! Most of my Platoon was there. I had never even heard of Roy before that night. It changed my life for ever. A big thanks to my brothers for dragging this Newby along and and even bigger to Roy, may you play that good old rock n' roll for ever in heaven!!

I saw him several times in Birmingham Town Hall in 1974, then in Nice south of France at the end of the seventies, then again in the UK and in France, he was always smiling and playing his great blues rock. I had discovered his music through Taste at the isle of Wight, his first band. Rory was one of the best lead guitarist of the seventies, he was even asked to join the Rolling Stones when Mick Taylor left. Fortunately Rory stayed on his own with his band mates who remained faithful to Rory's music until the end. When I learnt he had passed away in his dear Cork, I cryed like a kid. He was my favorite guitar hero way before Jimmy Page, Randy California (another underestimated great player) or Jeff Beck. The blues lost his best child when Rory left us. Hope he is jammin' up above with Jimi, Duane, Les Harvey, Muddy, Lightin' Hopkins, Stevie Ray and all the great masters who left us too soon. The sky is not cryin' anymore...
