Concert Summary

For about five years in the late '70s and early '80s, the UK-based supergroup, Rockpile, captivated audiences around the world. Driven by their infectious energy and the imagination of the group's principle songwriter, Nick Lowe, the quartet churned out many rollicking performances, including this one, captured at the world-famous Palladium in New York City.

While Lowe may have been the group's driving creative force, Dave Edmunds' powerful vocals and melodic guitar work helped set the group apart. His smooth, confident voice is perfect for Rockpile's brand of punchy power-rock.…entire summary

Rockpile remains perhaps the best combination of rock, country and pop from the 70's/80's. Their Everly Bros covers included as extra tracks on Rockpile album are also not to missed if you like pure acoustic guitar and vocals.

"They Called It Rock", indeed! What an insanely talented band they were. Remember when Rockpile opened for Bad Company, and were blowing them off the stage every night? Ah, the good times...

This is a fantastic live show! I was hoping for the longer complete show that was broadcast on WNEW-FM that night. This shows includes Martin Belmont (from Graham Parker & The Rumour) joining Rockpile for the last 2 numbers. This was their best tour ever (opening for Blondie) and they headlined this show. The band is full of energy, just great rock'n'roll and a lot of fun. They were really at the top of their game in 1979 supporting both Labour of Lust, and Repeat When Necessary. Maybe someday we will get to hear the complete 70 minute set with gems like Queen of Hearts, Sweet Little Lisa, Switchboard Susan, Let it Rock, Let's Talk About Us, etc...
