Concert Summary

During the late 1960s, as guitarist for Procol Harum, Robin Trower developed an approach which proved him equally adept at providing rhythmic spacing devices as well as beefy lead guitar work within the context of their keyboard dominated instrumentation. When he formed his own band in the early 1970s, this experience would serve him well, allowing him to push the limited boundaries of the power trio format, by playing rhythm and lead guitar in a…entire summary

and Jimmy Dewar is the best singer for this kind of hard blues ever, hands down. and despite Hendrix's softer voice, he sings his stuff perfectly. But, yeah Dewar is my favorite rock blues singer. Can't Wait Much Longer is a masterpiece.

I love Trower but can't say he's better than Hendrix. man, that's quite a comment. But I will say that they're both 10 times better than SRV. who I also like, but Trower just blows the doors off his solos and is such a free improviser, and really the only guys who can develop the long range solos are Trower, Hendrix, and ofcourse Mclaughlin. and Clapton is like an archeologist, playing every lick in history. but for pure free, long solos, it's Hendrix and Trower. space blues, cosmic blues fusion, Voodoo Delta Blues, ....this stuff is my favorite and Mclaughlin meets them on the border and takes it somewhere else, very far away.

Trower is the real deal, I've seen him at least a dozen times from Austin Tx to Hollywood Ca and many points in between. He's never let me down, truly the master of the stratocaster Trower has forgotten more about the blues than Jimi ever knew. Jimi was the prince but Trower is King. Davey Pattison has huge shoes to fill trying to replace Jimmy Dewar on vocals but he pulls it off while his ex band mate (from Ronnie Montrose' Gamma) Glen Letsch (Bass)fit's right into the lineup. Dave Thompson keeps the beat in Trowers road band these days and is perfect for the assignment, these vintage cuts are a reminder of how good the new guys have to be to do their predecessors justice. Make no mistake, Robin Trower was an essential part of Procol Harums sound but from 'Twice Removed From Yesterday' to his '09 release 'What Lies Beneath' Robin Trower is the greatest guitar player alive today.

I saw Robin play last night at the House of Blues Dallas - what a show; his guitar playing was perfect as always and his new lead singer was great as well; keep playing Robin!
