Concert Summary

It was billed as "A Special Evening with Rick Derringer and Friends." Calling it that was an understatement to say the least, because the music (and the evening itself) was incredibly special and Rick Derringer was certainly surrounded by a lot of very important friends. Being one of the biggest Derringer fans of all time I can honestly say that this is not the concert to encapsulate Derringer. Sadly after the last concert with the Derringer line up in April of 1979 at the Shaboo in Willamantic Connecticut, the recordings and the shows have not measured up to the Derringer concerts of 1976 to April of 1979. Rick is still a great guitarist and should be ,in my opinion, the same standing as Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, and Eric Clapton, however when he let that line up go and brought in the other line up for the "Guitars and Women" in the fall of 1979 it went flat for Derringer. You can see highlights of this concert on youtube and it has high points, one is Rick playing with Ted Nugent. If you can get your hands on the Derringer show from September of 1978 from Monrovia California I think you will not be dissapointed.

Based on the fact that Edgar Winter is a multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist, I hypothesize that Edgar Winter is at least the saxophone player in "Right Place, Wrong Time," sheilman. If there were other horn players on this track, I agree that it would be nice to know their names.

Who are the HORN players in the band, please? Let's give THEM credit, too!
