Concert Summary

As one of the members of the legendary Canadian group the Band, Rick Danko had attained rock royalty status among critics and rock fans alike by the mid-1970s. He was one of the Band's three main singers, having been featured on several of that group's key songs - including the closer for this set, "This Wheel's On Fire," which he co-wrote with Bob Dylan.

This show was recorded at the intimate Bottom Line club in New York City, during a performance in…entire summary

Rick Danko & Levon Helm were the heart & soul of The Band, that's for sure. I was fortunate enough to have seen them many times, mostly in the post-Last Waltz era. I miss Rick terribly...I can't believe it's ten years since he's been gone.

Great Show! Reminds of The Garcia Band / Legions of Mary ca 1975, The Band, Neil Young, Dylan...

By 'this mediocre song' I meant "I Can See Clearly Now" -- first-time Vault user, totally psyched about this Internet gem.

Danko makes this mediocre song TOTALLY AWESOME.

This is the quintessential late 70s rock band sound with the honkin' saxophone, mid-tempo thump and clearly separated sound. This could be the Saturday Night Live house band, right? That's the sound.

David Johansen and Jim Carroll had bands with this sound in the late 70s as well.

Rick Danko had a voice like no other. But his timing as a solo artist was just tragic. Punk and new wave hit like a tidal wave. Radio turned inward. FM jocks couldn't grab album tracks anymore.

And that was about that. Well, the Bottom Line was a fantastic venue. Unfortunately this recording doesn't reflect the superior acoustics of that now long gone hall.

Audio standards aside, hearing Rick Danko put all of himself into this set is exhilarating. He was an inspired musician and an inspiring performer.

Don't forget that Rick Danko was one heck of a bass player too. He was an early pioneer on the fretless electric bass ... you've got to really know what you're doing to tackle that, and sing great at the same time !He had a unique and cool approach to bass playing. He is greatly missed. . Bassman Kevin
