Concert Summary

Rainbow was formed in 1975 when Ritchie Blackmore got tired of Deep Purple's in-fighting, and he decided to quit the band to start a new project from scratch. Rainbow became more radio friendly and pop oriented than Purple would ever be, and that success kept Rainbow going for the better part of a decade.

Recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour in 1981 shortly after they had sacked singer Graham Bonnet, what is included here is a set of pop-metal songs that are all anchored around Blackmore's over-the-top lead guitar antics.…entire summary

This concert had some really diverse stuff for the time JLT was just starting out in Rainbow. It was awsome to hear JLT do a pretty damn good version of Long Live Rock N Roll and Smoke on the water from this show.

Well, JLT is far from been the best singer for Rainbow, maybe he could fit in bands such as Foreigner or something like that, but never in Rainbow. Graham Bonnet and Ronnie Dio, specially, are great singers for hard rock. Dio was best one and he took Rainbow at the top with its medieval rock. Anyway, it?s always welcome to check Ritchie?s performances.

Not many guys can go thru singers like water as ritchie did, and yet with every chance he took from rod evans on- every guy was only best suited for that time in his creative place-and the fucking guy-like real fate... nailed it right with EVERY singer he hired-he respected soul singing as VITAL to the overall intense power thats due a real, get the fuck down rock and roll fucking music lover-whether it was subtle or heavy-it's always a creative as hell kick in the face-He Rules- Please Ritchie !!!!-put down the fuckin' lute!

In my opinion Joe Lynn Turner was the best singer in Rainbows lineup. His vocal range and style fit the music best!

Id like to see the Winterland show with Dio from Long Live Rock and Roll tour get put up on the concert list. That was a hell of a show. The opening act got booed off the stage, Rainbow came out and blew doors, then REO (the headliner) finished off the night. That was a crazy show!

You can see "Over the Rainbow" on Youtube. They have played in America too.

It would be absolutely amazing to have Ritcjie and Ronnie together one more time. I don't thnk it will happen though. This new "Over The Rainbow" project with JLT and Ritchie's son, even though I haven't heard them has to be some kind of JOKE. Come on now. To be taking credit for something like this and touring all over everywhere BUT America?? Must be afraid to come here. I even understand Ritchie gave them his blessing. I guess he's getting soft in his older years?

I saw Rainbow in Stuttgart, Germanny in March 81 and Def Leppard was opening that show. It was on the Difficult To Cure Tour. I got pictures of that show blown up to poster size all over my office. I think Rainbow blew Leppard off the stage. I can remember another tour when Joan Jett was opening for Rainbow in Stuttarg. She literally got Boo'd off the stage after the second song. Long Live the "Master Of The Stratocaster"
