Concert Summary

Quicksilver Messenger Service opened the show for Eric Burdon and the Animals shortly after their first album was released.

With limited stage time, they don't jam as much as usual, but they do perform some of their best material from the first LP. Surprisingly, they open both sets with the most adventurous and longest track on that album, "The Fool," which was usually positioned late in their shows around this time.

Both sets also contain…entire summary

This is it. I loved this band.
    This QMS is quintessentially
classic San Francisco. Still gives me chills.
The pre-Dino Quick & The Dead shows in the 60's
where High Times in the Wild West!

Some of the most-Magical QUICK that I have ever heard: Re: "The Fool" I produced "Sons of Mercury" which Rhino destroyed the original track-listing...I wish that you cats would make a QMS box of all of the stuff that you have in the archives at BGP and beyond...It would blow everyone away.....

This is the Quick at their very psychedelic best... I wish that they were half as good as this today...

I really appreciate all the QMS shows and I agree with the previous post: bring out the rare gems. Also, why are there 86 shows by the Grateful Dead, and no shows by the L.A. bands? No Buffalo Springfield, Spirit, Doors, Love? Yes there are a couple of Byrds shows. Speaking of rare, how about the Allman Joys or Hourglass? It would be great to hear the Allman Bros in their infancy. And why is David Frieberg the only photo included with these QMS shows. Cippolina was the most iconic hippie guitarist around.

I second (or third) that... Moby Grape is completely underrepresented here (what is there like 14 minutes or something?). I appreciate the QMS, JA, and GD shows (in that order), as they form the trinity of the SF scene, but let's get real here: so many bands that played the Fillmore, bands that don't have a lot of live output available, need to get dusted off and presented here. In addition to Moby Grape, let's also look for more of the following: Charles Lloyd, Blues Project, Charlatans, Electric Flag, Mother Earth, Mad River, HP Lovecraft, Lee Michaels... please, let's bring on the rare gems!

I'll back you up on that call Bud! Mobey Grape's "The Lake" is still on my top ten list With "Marmalade" just off that list. If you wanted FIRST CLASS Jam Music from that period The Grape was as heavy a hitter as they came, I have lost more great memories of them than I retain at this point but they always satisfied my musical hunger & sent me home with dessert in a bag! MORE MOBEY GRAPE LUTHER ALLISON JOHN MAYALL SANTANA MIKE BLOOMFIELD PLEASE...!

Thanks so much for these rare QMS early&late shows!! And thanks for all the hundreds of others. One huge request: Please find something/anything you can in those great big vaults from MOBY GRAPE. They did soooo many shows in all of the SanFran ballrooms and clubs. Ther must be at least some pieces or complete shows somewhere. I just hope that they're not in the hands of the evil Matthew Katz! Thanks!!
