Playlist Summary

The Newport Jazz Festival was already an established institution in 1959, its sixth year of operation. George Wein’s annual outdoor bash on Narragansett Bay in Newport, Rhode Island had been extensively covered by Down Beat magazine since its inception in 1955 and was thoroughly examined in Bert Stern’s stunning 1958 documentary, Jazz on a Summer’s Day. And jazz fans continued to flock to Acquidneck Island in record numbers to take in the sun and savor the sounds at this grand event. Yeah, I think it's hard to argue with "hippychick." Being outraged at paying four bucks a month for unlimited listening to this type of content -- the price of one friggin' Filet-o-Fish -- is not reasonable. This is incredible material, mostly unavailable anywhere else and exists because of the efforts of decades-long efforts of a long string of fans, from the original recorders to the remastering geeks -- not of money-motivated multinational corporations. I have no problem kicking such a tiny amount of money to keep this effort going and consider it petty to refuse to do so. What I've done over the last few years, btw, is suggest to relatives (whom would otherwise make the worst-possible choices on their own) to buy me Wolfgang gift certificates for Xmas. That works.

    last.fm…

what you seem to have overlooked, is the painstaking hours that WGV have put into acquiring, restoring and presenting this material for us. they are hardly streaming pre made pop records for us…

time and effort and money I'm sure goes into feeding people like you this material.

    wise up andres_t!t

I will continue to recommend this website, despite the huge 4 bucks a month…

I have recommended this site to so many people, and now it's cutting me off after 2 days of listening to it a month and asking me to pay. I'm done with this site. thanks, but no thanks for the outrageous monthly fees; and I am no longer recommending it to anyone! check out last.fm and hypem.com both stream for free and don't cut you off after a few hours!

This is a fantastic collection of some brilliant Jazz artists in their prime! The Basie band swings as always,
and Oscar Peterson leaves you breathless! Domenick Allen, Las Vegas

Simply superb! Oscar Peterson's take on Clifford Brown's DAAHOUD is exhilarating!
