Jimi Hendrix Tribute

Playlist Description

Jimi changed the way a guitar was used and changed what it meant to be a rock star. You've got to have guts to cover a Hendrix tune, so they're best heard in the hands of guitar gods like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana. It wasn't all just technical skill and innovation though; he played with so much feeling that acts like Rod Stewart and Kenny Rankin could find a niche for Hendrix songs in their live sets. Others, like the young Ernie Isley, had the good fortune of learning from him first hand. He is in the upper echelons of musician's musicians...so much so that even Bob Dylan once said that he he feels like he's doing a Hendrix cover when he plays "All Along the Watchtower" (Alvin Lee gives him credit for writing "Hey Joe" as well, though I'm not sure if that is a case of flattery). He is Jimi Hendrix, and no one else ever will be.
