Playlist Description
When it comes to electric blues and early rock and roll, the importance of the Chess Records catalog can not be overstated. Artists like Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Buddy Guy, and Etta James all cut recordings through Chess; many of those singles are now considered blues standards, while others are recognized as seminal moments in the birth of rock. This playlist compiles 30 live versions of those tracks, with recordings of Waters, Diddley, Berry and Willie Dixon along with a number of covers that speak to just how far the recordings' influence reached.
