Concert Summary

To raise awareness of human rights issues and to honor the 25th anniversary of Amnesty International, an impressive roster of musicians banded together in June of 1986. Billed as "A Conspiracy Of Hope," the tour hit six American cities and through press conferences, media events and the actual concerts, the artists directly engaged listeners on the issues of human dignity and human rights, inviting a new generation to take action to free prisoners of conscience throughout the world. The tour featured U2, Sting and Bryan Adams headlining the bill, with Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, The Neville…entire summary

Hi there. I was on this tour (guitar with Lou Reed) and here's the correct line-up for Peter's band.
    Peter Gabriel - vocals, keyboards
    David Rhodes - guitar, vocals
    Larry Klein - bass
    Ian Stanley - keyboards
    Manu Katch? - drums, vocals

slight correction: Klein HAD already worked with Peter on recording the SO album.

Better watch it again, because it IS Larry Klein on bass!
(Klein was married at this time to Joni Mitchell who also performed at this benefit--i think.?) After this, Larry Klein went on to work with Peter on the SO album, playing bass on a few cuts.) Has Pino Palladino EVER played live with Peter Gabriel--not that i know of!?!

If one watches the video (the link is in the summary), one can see that the bass player is definitely not Larry Klein, and looks a lot like Pino Palladino. Just for those keeping track ... one for Wolfgang's Vault.

Yes, that's her talking over the beginning of Sledgehammer: ouch! (I remember she also did an introduction for the MTV watchers at the beginning of the set too--either after or before Bill Graham's intro.)

Couple of corrections to the musicians listed here: the bassist is Larry Klein, not Pino Palladino; and i believe this was before Peter had collaborated with Youssou N'Dour--who is a vocalist not a percussionist anyway--but pretty sure N'Dour was not part of this performance: guess i better go back and watch the video(s) again to be sure!! ;)

Is that Martha Quinn doing the MTV voiceover at the beginning of Sledgehammer?
