Concert Summary

Originally broadcast on KSAN-FM's Live From The Record Plant concert series, this show, while technically and sonically far better than many live concert broadcasts, sounds more like a studio album cut in one take than a live recording. It was recorded in the pristine surroundings of San Francisco's world class Record Plant recording studio without the benefit of any studio audience. Although it sounds immaculate, there is no live audience for Peter Frampton to feed off of. Hence, while it is more sterile sounding…entire summary

The best Frampton lineup was Frampton, Andy Bown, Rick Wills, and John Siomos. They cooked - and it should have been that lineup, no disrespect to the late Bob Mayo that should have recorded that live album. Shame Andy went back to England and another monster band (though not in America) Quo before the band hit the top.

KSAN's Record Plant concerts were great. I remember hearing the Pointer Sister's for the first time on the radio and elvin bishop among many others.

frampton comes alive is my favorite live album, but i think the best years of rock have passed, they are in the past, there's any good guitarrist in these days who can make me close the eyes and just feel the music going back and forth throu my mind

Lost in the shuffle of the bloated images and expectations that followed "Comes Alive" was the simple point that this was a skilled young guitar player with a serviceable voice. Frampton had some great moments with Humble Pie...and it is not too hard to track down and appreciate his very young work with the Herd. It is still tough to choke down the miserable dreck of the Sgt. Pepper movie. But when I think back to the sound of the '73-'75 shows...before he had played the same songs for eight years...and the connection with Mayo, Siomos and Andy...THAT is the Frampton worth cheering and celebrating. OK...I'll blame the Pepper movie on Stigwood!

Saw Frampton on the Frampton Comes Alive tour in Ottawa during a magic summer time period in 1976 when all you would hear on FM radio was Do You Feel Like We Do. Got tickets at the last minute and it was a fabulous show. One of the best I've seen over the years. I think that's partly because we left our seats and moved close to the stage which always brings more intensity to the experience. Great to actually experience/see the parts from the album that didn't always make sense audio wise - as in when the crowd would roar at certain times. Especially so in Do You Feel. We were surprised to see Frampton go over to the drum kit and play for a bit. That's where the crowd roars for no apparent reason. Listen for it. This set certainly has that freshness of a band just getting their touring grove on I think. No doubt a magic time for them as well. Often wonder how you can deliver the same songs over and over and over but that's part of the professional isn't it? "Wanna thank you ... do you feel alright ..."
