Concert Summary

When Townshend staged this charity concert in 1985, he had been off the road with The Who for three years. That pivotal British Rock band had done a "farewell" tour in 1982, but had reared its head again and roared a few months earlier in a one-off appearance at Live Aid. And despite pleas from both Daltrey and Entwistle to reform and tour again, the next proper Who reunion would have to wait until four years later, in 1989. In the meantime, Townshend was determined to keep his solo career on track, which had been propelled…entire summary

I have this album... Sorta... This is like listening to Live @ Leeds for your whole life and then finding that it's only half the concert (except without the annoying new notes added). Live @ the Deep End I think it's called. I thought that it had something to do with the White City video. In that "film-u-mentary-u-music-video" the idea is that Townshend is in the White City to put on a concert at the local pool. So naturally, I thought they were all related. Anyway, it's all good to me. I don't really care if "It holds up" or not, nobody I knew (outside my immediate circle) knew anything about P Townshend then anyway so what do I care if people today like it or not? I think it's great music and that's the only person I'm looking to make happy. Thanks WG’sV, Hey BTW any time I make myself a tee shirt with your pictures here, I leave the watermark on and I have a “Shop Wolfgang’s vault.com” line on there too, so I’m advertising for ya’.

Thank you for digging up this amazing show!! I remember having a vhs of this when it was first broadcast. The band is so tight and Simon Phillips is as usual just awesome

Outstanding - it's more than stood the test of time. I can see the point about an acoustic set but isn't that the way we'd like to see most major songwriters - look at springsteen's last solo acoustic and piano shows: fantastic. Would Townshend go down the same route, I'd love to see Prince on his own on a stage solo with guitar and piano, for two hours of hits but I don't think it's gonna happen. Townshend's gone the other way here - massive production but works in every way.

I love this show. Had the VHS way back when and remember being totally blown away by the sheer magnitude of the production. The brass section, the backup singers... This is a really classy production. Unlike some of the previous comments, i think this show is weathering the years just fine. Too bad more musicians don't care enough to put this level of effort into their live performances.
