Concert Summary

Hark, ye winsome lasses! 'Tis the gentle madrigal of Pentangle methinks thou dost - oh, forget it. A stadium full of Renaissance Faire jesters jacked on mead couldn't match the Elizabethan spectacle of Bert Jansch's guitar. Though others like Tull and Zeppelin dabbled in British folk with varying degrees of success, Jansch, with fellow folkie guitarist John Renbourn, cultivated the songs of his homeland as a full-time pursuit.

After a couple of solo records each and a…entire summary

Saw these guys perform many times in various configurations. Musically they were streets ahead, and it stands up 40 years later.

Wonderful fidelity on this show: it's almost as good as the live LP from a few years later! Thanks to whomever is responsible for saving this gem!

Below you can see the poster/handbill for the historic February/March 1969 Grateful Dead run that produced much of "Live Dead". Lost in the shuffle is that Pentangle was also on that bill. I went to 3.1.69 and never will forget them doing their set sitting on chairs, sandwiched between the Dead's incredible sets.

Wow, it has been so long since I listed to this group that I forgot how good they are. Bert is comparable to John McLuaghlin on accoustic guitar (from me that is the ultimate compliment) and the band has a sound that combines the psychedelic sound of vintage mid 60's Jefferson Airplane and the Dead, Mahvishnu Orchestra and McDonald & Giles. This concert is what makes the Vault so great. Keep it up.

Is there any more tapes of Pentangle from Great American Music Hall in the 90's available anywhere on Wolfgangs Vault? Or Bert Jansch from the same venue 80's or 90's?....

  • RawTigerMilk | Saturday, June 13, 2009 | 11:00 am

Killer Amazing Show by the best acoustic folk English act in worldly existence....

  • jimi'stheman | Thursday, February 05, 2009 | 4:50 am

Would I be right in thinking that this lovely concert was the evening before Jimi's famous gig here?
