Concert Summary

When her tour bus pulled into Austin, Texas in autumn 1981, Pat Benatar was a veritable hit-making machine. Her shows were selling out faster than her management could book them, and her red-hot romance with guitarist Neil Geraldo was steaming up the stage. At 28, she'd just earned her first Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Female. The award honored her second album, Crimes of Passion, which was produced by Keith Olsen of Journey fame. The record nestled in comfortably at number two on the U.S. charts,…entire summary

Saw this lineup in Philly at Mann Music Center, with Billy Squier as the opening act. Incredible show! Neil can sound hard, melodic, sweet and distorted, all in same song. Perfect foil for Pat. I always respect and admire a singer who keeps a band intact and makes them a part of their sound. When a new album came out, I looked to see if Neil, Scott, Myron and Roger were there and if so, magic! Billy Squire was a great opener and the Benatar band made it one incredible night, especially for guitar freaks! Love the vault! Peace and love from Philly!

Saw this show in Springfield, MA (my hometown). Benetar had been on the fringes of my listening taste as AOR melted into the corporate melange that spandex and big hair came to symbolize. I had expected the show to be neat, tidy and something that amounted to a radio turned up real loud and got ambushed. The band ripped with a depth, subtlety and near train wreck realism rarely seen in a rock n roll show. Along with Geraldo's guitar and Ms. Benetar's voice and sense of showmanship and backed by a very tight yet loose group of musicians, well, just listen to "In the Heat of the Night" and judge for yourself. I also had the privilege to stand behind the band and watch a one of the most overlooked, talented and immensely entertaining drummers work his magic while literally running around his kit for half the night and not missing a single cue, Myron Grombacher. Very cool. Good memory... I also agree, the sound was never the same without the second guitar

I totally agree with Martin's comments. After the departure of Sheets the band was never the same. Although Neil is a great guitarist, Sheets added the guts that made it rock.

Saw Benatar with this band and they were a great outfit. Later Geraldo decided he didn't need a second guitarist and Scott Sheets was dismissed. Huge mistake. They added a great keyboard player i Charlie Giordano but the band with a single guitar never sounded as good. Great leads by Geraldo on this show but take a close listen to what Sheets provided to the sound of this band!
