The oppression and destruction of the Tibetan culture and people at the hands of the Republic of China became a major international issue in the 1990s and aroused the interest and ire of nations around the world. This concert not only featured major rock groups of the decade, but speakers on behalf of the beleaguered Tibetan people. The poster design by Japanese designer Masanori Shimozato featured some especially meaningful lyrics from the Beastie Boys.
