Oingo Boingo

With a name that sounds more like a mixed drink, Oingo Boingo's quirky title and persona have won them comparisons with the likes of Devo. Although similar in sound and overall oddity level, however, the L.A.-based new wave rockers never had the success of Devo although they certainly made a name for themselves in Southern California during the 1980s. Danny Elfman, vocalist and guitarist for Oingo, found success in film scores and became one of Hollywoods most in-demand composers. The band officially laid itself to rest in '95 with a farewell performance at L.A.'s Universal Amphitheatre. The performance was issued a year later as a CD and video titled Farewell.
