About

Nils Lofgren

Singer/guitarist Nils Lofgren formed Grin with Bob Gordon and Bob Berberich in 1969. Grin produced a string of noteworthy albums in the early '70s and built a reputation in and around Washington, D.C. Grin caught the attention of Neil Young, which led to several collaborations with Young and his backing band, Crazy Horse. As Lofgren's status as a well-regarded guitarist continued to climb, rumor was that he would replace Mick Taylor in a coveted spot in the Rolling Stones. Instead, Lofgren signed with A&M records to launch a solo career. His self-titled debut was followed by a successful touring stint in which Lofgren astounded audiences with his acrobatic skills, often launching himself into the air with the aid of a trampoline. Lofgren's circus of a solo career fizzled after the '70s, but his work as a trusty sideman proved to be a comfortable niche. In the '80s, Lofgren joined forces Young once again, and he enjoyed a very successful run with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
