Concert Summary

Following the outstanding performances that proceeded it, this closing All-Star set from the 1975 Bay Area S.N.A.C.K. benefit had a lot to live up to. With a lineup that featured Neil Young and Bob Dylan, backed by two members from Neil's group, the Stray Gators, and three from the Band, one would expect this to be an incredible set. In some respects it certainly is, but the lack of rehearsal opportunity and technical problems prevent it from being the…entire summary

If this is the benefit concert to "Save After School Sports Programs" in San Francisco, it was one of the best concerts I ever attended. It had rained all week long and even that morning it was raining, and then it stopped about the start of the concert and the sun came out. It started to rain again about an hour after the concert finished. An experience I will never forget.

That was one exceptionally great day. The sun coming out as the Dead finished their half hour jam of Blues for Allah, and the whole place up on its feet. Neil, Dylan and the Band ending the day. What a concept. I remember playing Helpless with a couple friends (me on dulcimer) and we were jamming along and I moved us into Knockin on Heavens Door. They thought it was inspirational, but I had to cop that I had heard it before at a particularly fantastic day. It also seemed rather poignant that as Joan Baez was singing alone on the stage, storm clouds were coming towards her and she sang into the storm. As we left the stadium, it started raining as it had at three o'clock in the morning. Quite magical.
