Thanks to the guy who ID'd Paul Oscher on the harp. One of the most fun and best harp players still around. Wish he would play on the West Coast more often. Never miss him when he is here!!! Never saw Muddy. One regret.....

How would you like to say that Muddy Waters is your Godfather.

It's good hearing talking about sneaking up on his friend the great Aaron T bone Walker, and seeing his friend BB king in Milwaukee.

Is this for sale? This belongs in the SMITHSONIAN....I worked for Muddy, briefly, in 71. This band didn't even need to sound check....they could just plug in and play and they always sounded perfect, all building around Muddy's voice and guitar...the natural sounds of the drums and piano. Pure magic.

This is what makes Wolfgang's Vault so awesome. These classic performances in high quality. This one gives me shivers.

Terrific video from the Ashgrove. Was there a more important "bridge" than Muddy Waters? From delta blues to British rock & roll....from Son House and Robert Johnson to the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and everything after.

Exactly, that's way to do it (and should be done from now on also).

There's more to blues than "lead guitar"...these guys are playin' the REAL stuff, the rhythm section is spectacular. Everybody in Muddy's band plays it just right, you can HEAR the piano player no problem..'cause the band comes down and lets him come through. This is the real stuff.

I saw Muddy on a Sunday evening around this time at the Coral Gables in East Lansing. There were only about 50 people there which was a shame. He was great and I will never forget seeing him. Muddy is #1 in blues in my opinion. Around same time Howlin Wolf would come to Ann Arbor a lot. Loved the band building him up before he came out. These guys will never be replaced.

Hard to believe it's 40 years ago. Like the interview, too.

indeed, muddy's guitar players are quite reserved. the pianists generally take the virtuoso spot... pinetop in this case, and otis spann some decades back.

Paul Oscher on harp. I note how Muddy never wanted any flashy guitar in his groups. Even when Bloomfield played with him, Mike toned it down a bit in deference to the way Muddy liked it.
