Concert Summary

There is no better example of Mountain at the height of its powers than this New Year's Eve concert at Fillmore East. The band was based out of Forest Hills so they were surrounded by friends, family, and an extremely enthusiastic audience. They had recently released their strongest and most cohesive album, Nantucket Sleighride and this great new material combined with the success of their previous album and single, "Mississippi Queen," inspires the group to play at peak capacity.

Following the Happy New Year introduction, the recording begins with a powerful take on "Never In…entire summary

I agree with "abbgm". The fadeouts and different sound qualities suggest this could be combination of two sets. Not to quibble but if Wolfgang could do some research on the source tapes it might clear this up. That said, this download makes a wonderful addition to Mountain's live recordings, considering that the Bootleg series is patchy and that they never released a lengthy live album with the classic lineup. Agree with many reviewers, this isn't just the Leslie West show, this is a great band in full flight. Hard to know why they didn't hit it big but it seems things just didn't quite workout, and perhaps they needed a break or two. Hope Leslie is doing well after his health issues.

This is a gem! Worthy of buying download -- which I did. Had to be able to burn a CD for the road! Never knew much of this band outside their big hit. WOW--what I'd been missing!

I was lucky enough to be sitting in the 3rd row at this show 42 years ago. It was, honestly, one of the best rock concerts I have ever attended. Thanks to Wolfgang's Vault, I was able to relive this experience all over again. Thanks!

Thanks abbgm for the (probable) set sequence - much appreciated!

On 12/31/70 Mountain played two shows, the first show was probably shorter than the second show. A more accurate setlist (sequence of songs) would be: 1. Never In My Life 2. Don't Look Around 3. Baby I'm Down 4. Animal Trainer And The Toad 5. Nantucket Sleighride 6. Long Red 7. Blood Of The Sun 8. For Yasgur's Farm 9. Travelling In The Dark 10. Guitar Solo 11. Dreams Of Milk And Honey 12. Auld Lang Syne 13. Silver Paper 14. Mississippi Queen
Mountain also played on 12/30/70 (one show), 12/27/70 (one show) and 12/26/70 (two shows)
at Fillmore East in New York. If this concert as listed above is a mix of both shows or the second show only is still a question.

I'm a lifelong Mountain fan and I finally downloaded this gig. Spectacular! Can anyone advise on the actual sequence of the set? I"m assuming "Mississippi Queen" is the encore, not the third tune.... and the giant "Dreams of Milk & Honey" jam is somewhere mid-set, not the encore. Any help would be most appreciated! Get well soon Leslie.... RIP Felix... and thank you Steve and Corky for creating such great rock n roll!

Leslie just had to have part of his leg amputated. Get well soon dude!

When it comes to rock and roll these guys are just as, if not more important than any of their peers. Felix was and still is one of my favorite bassists...he played it like a baritone vocalist...masculine,deep, melodic, nothing wasted and always emotional...Leslie....Wow! Hendrix will always be my favorite guitarist but Leslie could bring tears to my eyes..always sounded so feminine...so fierce...like the way you want your woman to sound at the moment of truth..like a Siren from the myths...The two of them were BETTER than Clapton and Bruce, Entwhistle and Townshend, Redding and Hendrix, Butler an Iommi...
