Concert Summary

There is no better example of Mountain at the height of its powers than this New Year's Eve concert at Fillmore East. The band was based out of Forest Hills so they were surrounded by friends, family, and an extremely enthusiastic audience. They had recently released their strongest and most cohesive album, Nantucket Sleighride and this great new material combined with the success of their previous album and single, "Mississippi Queen," inspires the group to play at peak capacity.

Following the Happy New Year introduction, the recording begins with a powerful take on "Never In…entire summary

one of the greatest losses in the buisness! if Gail Collins is still alive... SHAME ON YOU BITCH! I met Felix Pappalardi once and he was as mild and friendly as a big rockstar could have been. He should in my opinon be considered for the hall of fame, after all, back then, who was a better producer- player than Felix? Think about it!

This is awesome! Very good recording - decent stereo mix. Very, very few groups can do a live performance at this level of musicianship - unbelieveable. Not a bad note all night. In my opinion, Leslie West is in a class of his own. Nobody else can crank out a wall of power chords and solo at the same time like he does - he does the work of 2 people. Felix is simply amazing - he's all over that bass providing melodic support and rhythym at the same time - wow! Superb drumming. I know Steve Knight seems to be a point of contention for some, but I personally find his subtle support on keys to add to the music. I'm thrilled I found this site - thank you for offering these recordings!

I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Mountain sans keyboard in Columbus Ohio when I was about 15, hippie wannabee stoner. Had 3rd row center section seats and when Leslie West played the dream sequence guitar solo it was something that I had never seen before or after. This concert is a great recording and very close to the show I saw. Give props to Bill Graham for his vision of Fillmore East and West. Liked the comment about never buy your wife a .38 for her birthday. Unfortunately like words, when bullets come out of gun or words out of your mouth you can't get them back. I'm sure his wife is haunted by what happened.

Leslie West said in an interview: "Never buy your wife a gun for an anniversary present. Get her a 'wundabrarh' (Wonder-bra) instead." Good advice for us all.
