Concert Summary

In a late 1998 interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins was asked to describe what his band's next album would sound like. Reluctant to give too much away, he replied "I will tell you that it's going to sound a lot like Mountain." No doubt this comment sent more than a few Pumpkin fans out looking for Mountain CDs; sadly, most of Mountain's albums are pretty hard to find, save for a few compilations.…entire summary

What is the debate about? This was the crapiest live album next to Twin Peaks. Give me Flowers of Evil live side any day. Saw them in Chicago in early 1970,(AWESOME) 1971,(KILLER) 1972 and after that, total crap. No Steve Knight and too many drugs. They should have done so much more than they did. What a waste......................

Great show!!! I was there. Late show. Felix's birthday. John Scher brought out a cake and we sang Happy Birthday to him. ZZ Top opened the show. Played until about 5:00 am or so! One of the loudest shows I've ever been too! Ears still ringin'!! Long Live Moutain!!!!

Leslie kickin' out the finest, as usual, but what happened to the bess in the mix? Can anyone remix Felix's much needed part especially in Miss. Queen? To have seen this show had to be a fine time. Keep it coming Wolfgang's Vault! Great job!

My question is why is this a new release? This has been up here forever. The Mountain King Biscuit was originally broadcast on February 10, 1974 along with a set from the Climax Blues Band. As Thomas said the original braodcast did not include Mississippi Queen. One interesting possibility as to why the November 3, 1974 date surfaced is that they played Detroit on that date at Cobo Hall opening for the J. Geils Band and the Mississippi Queen on this recording is from a Detroit show. I know that most believe it was from the December 16, 1973 Detroit Masonic Auditorium show, but could it have been from this November 1974 show. Also, King Biscuit did broadcast J. Geils on December 10, 1974, could this have been from their November 3, 1974 Detroit show? Also, yes they were defintely a four piece in December 1973. David Perry may have been with the band from the tour beginning in November 1973 until the middle of 1974. I have a newspaper source that has him in the band at least as early as December 9, 1973. Hope this helps.

Sorry to contradict Leslie West himself but they were four musicians that night (his interview was probably done much later after the concert date), as not only do we hear another guitar (even if it is often low mixed), but Felix introduces David Perry on rhythm guitar at the beginning of track #7

Thanks for your additional info, Dopeburger. Well, Mountain were scheduled to play The Capitol on Dec. 29 and 30, 1973. According to basslot's helpful info, they obviously couldn't play the 29th date as Felix had injured his hand. Since the band were scheduled to play the Felt Forum on NYE (12/31/73), and there are definitely two *different* King Biscuit shows around - the originally b'cast 30min. version, and the one here on WV - I tend to think, they made up for the cancelled show by playing two shows on the 30th! .... The originally KBFH b'cast show featured the following tracks: YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT - THEME FOR AN IMAGINARY WESTERN - GET OUT OF MY LIFE, WOMAN - NANTUCKET SLEIGHRIDE - ROLL OVER BEETHOVEN/WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN‘ GOIN‘ ON. ... On this orig. b'cast version, Felix goes "...sorry 'bout last night" before "Theme For An Imaginary Western" so this may have been the make-up (and perhaps early?) show whereas the one here on WV was the regular (late) show since there is no apology to be heard. ... AFAIK, the orig. KBFH radio show was b'cast sometime in early 1974, and this circumstance may have caused the 11/3/74 fantasy date. ... Does this help? Hope so. Mountain - and WV - ahoy! Th:-)mas
